IT WAS ALL
A DREAM.
If you’ve ever stepped into Moe’s Record Shop, you’ve probably met Moe himself—always ready to chat about music, recommend a great album, or swap stories about legendary concerts. Growing up in Scottsville, KY, his love for music started early, and by 1974, he had bought his first LP, Rufusized by Rufus feat. Chaka Khan. He played trumpet throughout middle and high school, further deepening his appreciation for musicianship.
From 1985-2001, Moe worked in music retail, helping customers discover their next favorite album. After 17 years with the City of Gainesville and a side gig hosting shows on 89.1 WBCX, he followed his dream for retirement and opened up Moe’s Record Shop in 2019. Since moving to downtown Gainesville, it has become a go-to spot for vinyl lovers.
At Moe’s Record Shop, music conversations flow as easily as the records spin. The shop reflects Moe’s personal taste—95% of what he loves is on the shelves, or came from his personal collection—so he takes pride in helping customers explore new sounds. Whether it’s jazz legends like Miles Davis, alt-rock essentials like The Replacements, or underrated gems like Follow For Now, Moe’s recommendations are always tailored to the listener.
For Moe, “keeping vinyl alive” means more than just selling records—it’s about sharing the experience of music. Some of his best memories come from Record Store Days and live events, where the energy in the shop is electric. But his favorite part? The people. Teaching customers about music, hearing their stories, and seeing connections form over a shared love of vinyl is what makes Moe’s Record Shop special.
Whether you’re a lifelong collector or just starting your vinyl journey, Moe’s Record Shop is a place to dig through the crates, swap stories, and find your groove.

ALAN WINE
Vinyl Enthusiast & Music Aficionado
Alan’s love for music has been lifelong, but his passion for vinyl collecting took off just five years ago. Since then, he’s been digging through crates, discovering hidden gems, and curating a collection that spans decades and genres.
Ask Alan about underrated artists, and he’ll introduce you to The Luvmenauts, a band crafting soundtracks for ‘70s sci-fi films that never existed. His essential record recommendation? The Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream—a perfect mix of dreamy melodies and raw emotion. When he needs a mood boost, Our Lady Peace’s Clumsy is his go-to, and for deep cuts, he swears by Marvin Gaye’s "What’s Going On (Detroit Mix)", a soulful reimagining of a classic.
If he could witness any artist live, past or present, Frank Zappa would be at the top of his list. But when it comes to shows he has experienced, nothing beats the energy of Coheed & Cambria’s Neverender Tour in 2014.
And if Moe’s Record Shop had a theme song? Alan’s pick is Grateful Dead’s "Shakedown Street"—because just like Moe’s, it’s all about good vibes, great music, and keeping the groove alive.
